Roomba firmware — 600 series (Wi-Fi models 675, 690, 694)

Latest listed release: 3.5.62 · 2020-07-15

The Wi-Fi 600 and 800 series (Roomba 675, 690 and 694, plus their 890 siblings) share one release-notes page, and it ends in July 2020: version 3.5.62 is the last software iRobot lists for them. Updates arrived over the air while the robot sat on its Home Base. The notes are short, mostly "bug fixes and usability improvements", with one exception in September 2018 when runtime was raised to 90 minutes. A robot showing an older version in the app is simply behind; there is nothing newer to wait for.

HOW TO CHECK AND UPDATE

iRobot pushes robot software over the air in waves, so two identical Roombas can sit on different versions for a few weeks. These steps come from iRobot's own support articles.

Check the version in the app

Open the iRobot HOME App and go to More, then Settings, then About (your robot's name), then Robot Software. The screen says whether it is up to date. If it is not, you can request the update from that same screen.

Leave it on the Home Base

Updates only download and install while the robot is docked, connected to Wi-Fi and not cleaning. iRobot says it can take up to 24 hours for a new version to reach a robot, and the install itself about 10 minutes.

Read the light ring

On the i series a white light swirls around the CLEAN button while software installs, and the app sends one notification when the update starts and another when it has finished. Keep the robot on the base until then.

If no update ever arrives

Move the robot closer to the router and out of cold rooms, then check More, Settings, Wi-Fi Settings, Robot Wi-Fi Details. A status of "Server Unreachable" means the robot cannot reach iRobot's servers; iRobot points at firewall settings for that case.

If it freezes mid-update

A circling white light and no response is iRobot's description of a stuck update. Hold CLEAN for about 20 seconds to reboot and wait two minutes for the tune. If that fails, remove and reinstall the battery, then call Customer Care with the serial number and, for warranty, the proof of purchase.
