Roomba Error 8 — Vacuum motor struggling
DIRECT ANSWER
COMMON CAUSES · RANKED
Clogged filter MOST COMMON
Fine dust cakes the filter and chokes the motor. Filters are consumables, not lifetime parts.
Overfull bin
A packed bin leaves the fan nowhere to push air.
Debris in the fan UNCOMMON
A pebble or clump of hair rattling in the impeller stalls the vacuum outright.
HOW TO FIX IT
Empty the bin
Press the bin release, empty it, and clear the bin opening of packed debris.
Clean the filter
Tap the filter firmly against the inside of a trash can. If it's past two months of use, replace it — no water, ever.
Rinse the bin and dry it
With the filter out, rinse the bin with warm water and let it air-dry completely before reinstalling.
Reboot and retest
If a clean bin and fresh filter don't clear the error, the vacuum fan itself is failing — contact support.
