Roomba won't connect to Wi-Fi
DIRECT ANSWER
COMMON CAUSES · RANKED
No usable 2.4 GHz network MOST COMMON
5 GHz-only networks, or routers that merge both bands under one name and steer the phone to 5 GHz, break setup on models that need 2.4 GHz.
Dock too far from the router
iRobot suggests 10–15 ft with few walls in between during setup. A weak signal drops the robot offline afterwards too.
Password or network changed
New router, renamed network, or a typo in the password — the robot keeps trying credentials that no longer exist.
Phone-side blockers UNCOMMON
An active VPN, Bluetooth turned off (newer models pair over Bluetooth first), or missing app permissions can stall setup at the searching screen.
iRobot cloud outage RARE
The robot joins your network but the app still shows it offline. Nothing to fix at home — wait it out.
HOW TO FIX IT
Get on the 2.4 GHz band
In your router settings, split combined bands into separate names, then connect your phone to the 2.4 GHz one before touching the app.
Move the robot next to the router
For setup only. Once connected, you can return the dock to its usual spot and check the signal holds.
Re-run the Wi-Fi setup
In the app, open Product Settings, then Wi-Fi Settings, and choose Change Product Wi-Fi. Retype the password slowly.
Reboot all three devices
Router off for 10 seconds, robot rebooted (hold CLEAN until the tone), app force-closed and reopened.
Rule out an outage before resetting
If the robot connected fine yesterday and nothing changed, check iRobot's support channels for a cloud outage before you factory-reset anything.
