Roomba Error 6 — Cliff sensor problem
DIRECT ANSWER
COMMON CAUSES · RANKED
Dusty cliff sensors MOST COMMON
A film of dust over the sensor windows blinds them, so every surface looks like a drop.
Robot hanging at a real edge
It stopped half over a stair nose or a sunken floor transition and can't back away.
Dark or black flooring
Very dark carpet or tile absorbs the sensor beam, which the robot reads as a cliff.
HOW TO FIX IT
Move the robot and restart
Carry it to open floor away from stairs and press CLEAN.
Wipe the cliff sensors
Turn the robot over and wipe all sensor windows along the front underside with lightly dampened melamine foam. Let them dry.
Keep it off problem surfaces
If a dark rug triggers the error every pass, block it with a Virtual Wall or a keep-out zone rather than fighting physics.
